Dryland Genetics
Dryland Genetics was founded in 2014 and develops and markets new higher yielding varieties of proso millet, a crop that produces twice as much grain from the same water as corn, while having only 75% the carbon footprint. Our new, propriety, proso millet varieties, developed using a combination of conventional breeding, genomic selection, and high throughput crop imaging are producing 10-40% more grain for Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas farmers. Faculty experts in crop genomics and breeding from the University of Nebraska and Iowa State University serve on our board of directors and our efforts are supported by investors including Next Level Ventures and Stine Seed Farm.

Ensign Pharmaceutical is a Nebraska-based start-up company. Evonik Corporation’s Blair, Nebraska site, located approximately 20 miles north of Omaha, and employing about 105, manufactures Biolys®, a form of L-Lysine used to produce feed additives for swine and poultry animal nutrition. Production started in 2000 for lysine.

Great Plains Biotechnology
Great Plains Biotechnology was founded by Dr. Tyler Martin in June 2013. It’s purpose is to create opportunity on the frontiers of biology. Dr. Martin is a 20 year veteran of the biotechnology industry and has built and led teams and companies that have translated interesting biology into products that have had a positive impact on the lives of patients including FLUAD, an influenza vaccine licensed in Europe that includes the novel adjuvant MF59, HEPLISAV, a hepatitis B vaccine that includes the novel adjuvant 1018 and is under regulatory review in Europe, and is in phase III in the United States. He led the medical affairs team responsible for TOBI, a drug that revolutionized the care of persons with cystic fibrosis. Dr. Martin, and his network of colleagues, have the expertise to support a wide variety of projects.

GreenSlate Development is responsible for creating and managing Omaha’s Blackstone District – a once forgotten stretch of Farnam Street, is now a diverse, mixed-use community where people can live, work and play. Since its inception, the neighborhood has seen an explosion in new development totaling over $200M in new investment including most recently the renovation of the historic Cottonwood Hotel. Connected to the easter border of UNMC’s campus, and in the heart of Midtown Omaha, the Blackstone District is designed with modern urban living in mind. HDR is an employee-owned design firm specializing in architecture and engineering. We have never met a science we didn’t like. High Volume Oxygen
High Volume Oxygen manufactures modular, expandable, cloud-monitored oxygen generating systems that are used in a variety of applications, including aquaculture, veterinary, scientific and artistic glass, horticulture, wastewater treatment, and fermentation. HVO systems are modular and expandable, making them configurable in a variety of ways to suit specific applications. The patented, CE-certified HVO System offers a low-cost, easy-to-maintain alternative to monolithic PSA oxygen plants and delivered high-pressure and liquid oxygen tanks. Our novel approach joins an array of small, mass-produced PSA oxygen concentrators, pressurizes and stores the accumulated oxygen at up to 160 psi to create a central oxygen resource. The company was founded in 2011 and is located in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Impower Health
Impower Health’s self-pacing treadmill technology will enable users to measure and track their gait just as they currently track other vital signs through their smart watches. Impower will enable gait to become the sixth vital sign — allowing us to license gait analysis across commercial and rehab treadmills globally. Working with our partners at the University of Nebraska and the kinesiology experts at UNO’s Biomechanics labs, we have a working prototype, our first patent has been granted, a second patent is already filed, and we’ve completed successful user trials.

MicroWash
MicroWash has an exclusive license to bring to market a proven, pain-free device that collects nasal specimens to test for pathogens, such as COVID, SARS or the flu. Number one reason for not getting tested – the pain (NIH). Emergency room physicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center took action by developing the pain-free MicroWash as an effective alternative to the pain-full traditional nasal swab. The MicroWash’s efficacy pilot results from the UNMC study are being published in a renowned medical journal and has several patents pending.

Nebraska Public Power District

ProTransit Nanotherapy
ProTransit Nanotherapy is an Omaha-based biotechnology company that plans to fully commercialize a unique and patented nanoparticle drug delivery system called Pro-NP™. The primary focus of Pro-NP™ is delivery of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase and catalase, to destroy reactive oxygen species that are very damaging. This cellular damage is a major driver in numerous diseases such as skin cancer, photoaging, traumatic brain injury, hypertension and many others. The first commercial application of Pro-NP™ will be in skincare products such as antiaging nighttime serum and sunscreens. Topical products like these will be commercialized through a licensing partner, Artesian Beauty. ProTransit has worked extensively with the Nebraska Nanomedicine Production Plant, which is on the campus of UNMC, to finalize the production process and scale-up to industrial scale. Based on recent successful first-in-human clinical trials, ProTransit is pursuing expanded trials followed by product launch in collaboration with national and international commercial partners.

Ting Therapeutics
Ting Therapeutics LLC (Ting) was first founded in August 2018 by Dr. Jian Zuo and Dr. Tal Teitz, both of whom are faculty in Creighton University School of Medicine. The mission of Ting is to develop therapeutics to prevent and treat hearing loss. The initial focus is on low-cost, point-of-care technology to protect hearing function. The initially targeted patient populations are testicular cancer patients who receive cisplatin chemotherapy and cystic fibrosis (CF) patients who receive aminoglycosides against bacterial infection; both treatments normally cause hearing loss in more than half of these patients. In addition to developing multiple proprietary new chemical entities (NCEs), Ting has repurposed a pipeline of FDA-approved drugs for other indications: repurposing drugs can significantly expedite clinical studies with half of the cost and time.
