Member Spotlight: Innovation in Nebraska Through Regional Life Sciences Incubator

For our September Member Spotlight, Bio Nebraska is showcasing five Nebraska-based companies, all new Bio Nebraska members, selected as part of the grant awarded to the Regional Life Sciences Incubator.

This initiative aims to accelerate job creation, foster economic growth, and support the development of the next generation of industry-leading companies in the life sciences sector.

Innosphere Ventures, in partnership with bioscience trade associations and universities across six states including Nebraska, has been awarded a $2 million Build to Scale Venture Challenge  grant from the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE), part of the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). The grant will fund the Regional Life Sciences Incubator over the course of three years. The program will significantly enhance Nebraska’s biotech and life sciences ecosystem, driving job creation and technological advancement.

The Nebraska-based companies – Automated Assessments, Impower Health, NeuroServ, Omedus, and ZCure – participating in this initiative are well-positioned to benefit from the resources provided through this program and will allow these companies to scale their innovations in health technology, healthcare services, and data solutions.

Automated Assessments

Automated Assessments mission is to automate the collection of validated predictive data to empower healthcare professionals with actionable insights at the point of care, thus enabling them to personalize treatment plans for every patient. Their solutions are aligned to automate readily captured data in clinical workflows and improve these processes to save time by combining multi-assessment tools for front-line workers and standardizing measurements to remove human error. Their patented approach employs patient encounter data, utilizing validated algorithms that result in data easily integrated into EMRs.

Impower Health

Impower Health’s self-pacing treadmill technology will enable users to measure and track their gait just as they currently track other vital signs through their smart watches. Impower will enable gait to become the sixth vital sign — allowing us to license gait analysis across commercial and rehab treadmills globally. Working with our partners at the University of Nebraska and the kinesiology experts at UNO’s Biomechanics labs, we have a working prototype, our first patent has been granted, a second patent is already filed, and we’ve completed successful user trials.

NeuroServ

NeuroServ LLC is a cutting-edge medical software company specializing in neonatal sleep monitoring technology. Sleep plays a vital role in brain development and neurocognitive outcomes, particularly for infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). Frequent interruptions for care can disrupt an infant’s sleep, negatively impacting feeding and development. NeuroServ addresses this problem by developing a breakthrough system that continuously monitors and analyzes sleep-wake stages in infants, providing caregivers with real-time, objective data to optimize care and minimize sleep disruptions.

Omedus

Omedus is a medical manufacturing company and our signature product is the StatPatch system. StatPatch is a wireless vitals monitor that performs automated triage. Our system allows for easy management of large patient volumes which is in line with our mission to create devices that save lives. Omedus is located in Omaha, Nebraska.

ZCure

The mission of ZCure is to develop nanoformulations of currently available FDA-approved medications or biologics to better serve as anti-cancer therapeutics and shorten the process of cancer drug development. We particularly focus on nanoformulations of drugs that can penetrate blood-brain barrier for treating brain cancer including glioblastoma.
