February 23-25, 2021
Virtual Event
The University of Nebraska’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resource will host a free, virtual screening of the documentary film “Picture a Scientist.”
“Picture a Scientist” chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries – including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists – who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
“Picture a Scientist” was an official selection of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.
The movie will be available for screening Feb. 23-25. A panel discussion about the film will take place Feb. 25 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Those interested in viewing the film must register by Feb. 18 and will receive an email with instructions on how to access the film and how to participate in the panel discussion.
